Pathways into Paediatrics
Join us for this 40-minute presentation and 10-minute Q&A session on the topic of Pathways into Paediatrics.
This presentation explores a dynamic and evolving approach to entering the field of paediatric podiatry. Join Liz O’Malley, credentialled paediatric podiatrist, and Dr Antoni Caserta, experienced paediatric podiatrist who discuss their individual journeys into this interesting specialisation.
Liz will walk us through the process of obtaining the title of a credentialled paediatric podiatrist. She will break down the process step by step—covering the key requirements and how they can be met in both private practice and public health settings. Along the way, she’ll share her own journey, offering insights into how she approached each stage of the credentialing process. The session will also explore the challenges she faced, the resources that helped along the way, and the opportunities this pathway can create for you as a healthcare practitioner in your everyday practice.
Rather than following a linear path, Antoni will outline how an opportunistic and iterative approach can open doors—highlighting the value of being responsive to emerging needs, building on small wins, and adapting along the way. The journey into paediatrics often begins with curiosity and a willingness to engage with complexity. I will share practical insights on how clinicians can position themselves to be seen, trusted, and included in paediatric care teams, even without formal paediatric roles at the outset. Key themes include building credibility, demonstrating clinical value in multidisciplinary settings, and cultivating trust with both families and fellow professionals. By focusing on communication, collaboration, and consistency, podiatrists can develop meaningful roles within paediatric health care environments. This talk will provide real world examples of how to navigate these transitions, foster professional relationships, and ultimately make a difference in the lives of young patients.
