WEBINAR - The Sub 2nd Syndrome with Podiatric Surgeon Mr Simon Smith
In this session Podiatric Surgeon, Mr Simon Smith will discuss the Sub 2nd Syndrome. Pain underlying the 2nd metatarso-phalangeal joint and 2nd webspace, which can be a frustrating condition to manage.
Sub 2nd syndrome is a general term to describe the soft tissue pathology commonly encountered in patients reporting pain underlying the central forefoot, namely plantar plate pathology with or without digital deformity, metatarso-phalangeal synovitis, intermetatarsal bursitis and common plantar digital nerve trauma or fibrosis.
During this presentation, Mr Simon Smith will discuss his experience in managing patients with Sub-2nd syndrome. He will discuss important clinical and patient factors to consider when managing this condition, including the patho-anatomy, biomechanics and pertinent clinical and radiographic investigations. The management of this condition will be addressed, including both non surgical and surgical management.
Mr Simon Smith
Simon is a Podiatric surgeon and consults and operates in Melbourne and Geelong. He obtained his undergraduate podiatry degree from La Trobe University in 1997 and Master of Podiatry from Curtin University in 2004. Simon undertook his specialist training in Podiatric surgery with the Australasian College of Podiatric Surgeons in 2003 and was awarded Fellowship with the College in 2009. He has expanded his clinical and surgical training overseas with Preceptorships in the United Kingdom in the National Health Service and in the United States at the Podiatry Institute. Simon's major interests include the surgical management of hallux valgus (bunions), hallux rigidus (arthritis of the big toe joint) and minimally invasive surgery for common forefoot conditions, such as hammer or claw toes. He also has an interest in limb preservation and surgical management of diabetic foot problems. Simon is a registered Podiatric surgeon and an endorsed prescriber with the Podiatry Board of Australia.
