Join us for this exciting 40-minute presentation and 10-minute Q&A session on the topic of adult acquired flat foot. Blake Withers will guide you through orthosis prescription and footwear selection for the condition, using real life case studies to enhance your understanding.

Learning objectives

  1. Analyse a real-life foot orthosis prescription, focusing on the rationale behind specific material choices and orthotic designs.
  2. Identify the most appropriate footwear options for adult-acquired flatfoot cases.
  3. Understand biomechanical analyses guiding the selection of orthotic materials.
  4. Review current evidence (as of 2025) regarding the pathophysiology and management strategies for adult-acquired flatfoot.
  5. Explore how patient factors, disease stages, and long-term prognosis influence treatment decisions, including footwear, foot orthoses, Richie braces, and adjunctive interventions.

The Presenter

Blake Withers

Blake Withers is a Clinical Academic and musculoskeletal podiatrist at the University of Newcastle, with expertise in biomechanics, injury prevention, and sports medicine. He lectures in podiatric biomechanics, supervises clinical placements, and leads research translation initiatives across education and private practice.

Blake is a published researcher, podcast host, and national speaker, with a strong record of community engagement and academic leadership. His work bridges research, clinical care, and teaching to advance evidence-based podiatry both in Australia and internationally.
