Lunch & Learn | Overseas Recruitment – An Employees Perspective

The Podiatry in Business Special Interest Group are delighted to launch their Lunch & Learn webinar series.

In our first webinar of the series, we’ll hear a first-hand account of overseas recruitment from the employee’s perspective. Spanish podiatrists Nuria Nemesio Maureen Hayashida will share their personal journeys, from deciding to work overseas, navigating the recruitment and relocation process, to settling into a new health system and workplace. The session will highlight key challenges, surprises, and supports that made the transition possible, offering insights for local podiatrists considering overseas recruitment. Join us for an informative session!

What we will cover:

  1. Identify common challenges and enablers experienced by internationally recruited staff when transitioning into a new health system and workplace.
  2. Reflect on practical lessons and insights that can inform more supportive overseas recruitment and onboarding practices.

The Presenters:

Nuria Nemesio Quer is a Brisbane-based podiatrist with over eight years of clinical experience across private practice and multidisciplinary allied health teams in both Spain and Australia. She graduated from the University of Barcelona in 2015 and relocated to Australia in 2016, becoming the first Spanish podiatrist to do so. She successfully navigated the international registration pathway by completing the ANZPAC Practical Competency Assessment at La Trobe University in 2018, followed by full registration with the Podiatry Board of Australia in 2019.

A qualified fitness instructor, Nuria integrates movement-based rehabilitation with strong clinical expertise to support active individuals in recovering from injury, improving performance, and returning to pain-free activity. Her clinical interests include sports podiatry, biomechanics, paediatrics, injury management, prolotherapy, and multidisciplinary case management. She has practised across diverse healthcare settings, including North Queensland and metropolitan Australia.

Through her own international transition and leadership roles, Nuria has developed a strong understanding of professional development, mentoring, and clinical excellence within podiatry. She is passionate about supporting new graduates and helping teams build resilient, high-performing clinical environments. In this webinar, Nuria shares her personal journey and practical insights to inspire employers and clinicians navigating international career pathways.
