About CPD for Podiatrists
The registration standard set out by the Podiatry Board of Australia states the minimum requirements for CPD for podiatrists and podiatric surgeons per year (the CPD reporting year being 1 December to 30 November). This registration standard applies to all registered podiatrists and podiatric surgeons except those with non-practising registration. It does not apply to students.
Podiatrists
Podiatrists must complete a minimum of 20 hours of CPD per year, which must;
- Include a range of activities from the five (5) categories set out in the PBA guidelines, and
- Include a minimum of five (5) hours in an interactive setting with other practitioners, such as face to-face education, and
- Have a focus on aspects of podiatry practice that are relevant to your area of professional practice and have clear learning aims and objectives that meet your requirements.
- If you are a podiatrist you must also have completed training that includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) every 12 months and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and management of anaphylaxis every three (3) years. The training must be conducted by an approved training organisation.
Podiatrists Endorsed for Scheduled Medicines
Podiatrists Endorsed for Scheduled Medicines must complete the same minimum requirements as a podiatrist and include;
- An additional 10 hours of CPD per year related to the endorsement (thus 30 hours of CPD per year).
- The additional CPD must include a range of activities from the five (5) categories set out by the PBA.
- You must also have completed training that includes cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) every 12 months and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and management of anaphylaxis every three (3) years. The training must be conducted by an approved training organisation.
Podiatric Surgeon
Podiatrists who are Podiatric Surgeons must complete the same minimum requirements as a podiatrist and include;
- An additional 20 hours of CPD per year related to this scope of practice (thus 50 hours of CPD per year) and
- The additional CPD must include a range of activities from the five (5) categories set out by the PBA,
- and have successfully completed training in Advanced Life Support from an approved training organisation.
