APodA congratulates Queensland Health’s step forward to build regional podiatry workforce

The Australian Podiatry Association (APodA) welcomes the introduction of the Queensland Health Podiatry Trainee Program as an important step in addressing the current workforce shortage across Queensland.

By enabling students to undertake paid trainee roles while completing their studies, this program removes significant barriers to entry and strengthens the pathway into the profession.

The integration of remote study options with structured clinical experience will not only broaden access to podiatry but also help ensure a sustainable supply of graduates equipped to meet the growing demand for podiatry services.

This unique workforce initiative could help claw back podiatry vacancy rates of 10 per cent across Queensland Health - which is roughly double that of all allied health positions.

As the national peak body, the APodA strongly supports collaborative initiatives such as this, which enhance access to care and build workforce capacity for the benefit of patients and communities.

More information about the program and how to apply can be found on the Queensland Health website here >>
