Call for EOI open: Journal of Foot and Ankle Research (JFAR), Associate Editor

The Journal of Foot and Ankle Research (JFAR) has an opening for two new Associate Editor positions to help support the operation and future development of the journal.

JFAR, the official journal of the Australian Podiatry Association and The Royal College of Podiatry (UK), is an open access journal that encompasses all aspects of policy, organisation, delivery and clinical practice related to the assessment, diagnosis, prevention and management of foot and ankle disorders.

The journal currently publishes a range of key information on all aspects of foot and ankle issues. Issues regularly include research articles, reviews, editorials, research protocols and commentaries.

A peer-reviewed, ISI-listed journal, JFAR is an international journal and is well-established, having been in publication since 2008. The readership and importance of the journal has grown steadily, with the current impact factor standing at 2.9 and a worldwide base of subscribers and authors.

Key roles and responsibilities of the Associate Editor

The Associate Editor will assist the EIC to manage and organise review for manuscripts submitted to the JFAR.

Participation at all stages of the article management process is required for timely decision-making, such as:

  • Screening submitted manuscripts for eligibility in line with JFAR’s stated scope and purpose, and potential interest to the readership.
  • Identify and receive reports from reviewers to assess each manuscript that is suitable for external review.
  • Assess reviewer comments and make manuscript recommendations based on these comments, the Associate Editor’s own judgement and expertise.
  • To ensure that reviews and recommendations on submissions are dealt with in a timely manner.
  • Prepare detailed recommendations and supporting comments to aid the EiC in decision-making, and authors in improving their work.
  • Communicate with authors, reviewers and the publishing team as required.
  • Know and apply ethical research and publishing principles to their work for the Journal.
  • Attend virtual editorial board meeting that occur 7 times per year.
  • Collaborate, lead and contribute to activities to better serve JFAR's readership and enhance the Journal’s reputation.

The appointment will be for three years commencing mid 2025, with the potential to renew for a further period subject to approval by the journal’s publisher.
