Celebrating Podiatry WA Day: working towards a stronger, unified profession

The Australian Podiatry Association (APodA) was thrilled to attend Podiatry WA Day in Perth recently. Hosted by Podiatry WA and led by Anton Claux, Dr Beatriz Alija Martínez, Shane Toohey and Assoc Prof. Reza Naraghi and their dedicated team, the event brought together practitioners, leaders and emerging voices from across WA for a day of learning, conversation and connection.

APodA's CEO Hilary Shelton and Membership and Education Manager Natalie Policki were invited to attend and warmly welcomed, reflecting the spirit of collaboration that underpins the strong relationship between our organisations. This spirit is central to one of our core values, ‘Better Together’. It’s a value we actively put into practice, whether we’re engaging with members, non-members, stakeholders or partner organisations. Across every discussion, the question guiding us is simple, “How can we be better together?”

Being “better together” can take many forms, from open, ongoing conversations that keep us informed, to working together on professional events, to shared problem-solving when challenges arise. Podiatry WA Day was a clear example of this value in action.

Working towards a stronger, unified profession

Podiatry WA and APodA continue to progress work toward a planned merger, an important step that will strengthen the profession in Western Australia and enhance the collective voice of podiatrists nationally.

By uniting our efforts, we are building a more connected community with greater influence and impact.

Listening to the profession

During the event, APodA took the opportunity to speak with many podiatrists about their experiences, aspirations and challenges. Conversations touched on what inspires clinicians, what supports they value most from their association, and what would help them deliver even better care.

One theme came through consistently – podiatrists choose this profession because they want to help people live their best life. That motivation sits at the heart of our shared purpose, ‘Amazing podiatry always’.

Thank you to our WA Committee

We also acknowledge and thank the members of the APodA WA Regional Committee John Grycorcewicz, Marie Ishak, Ashley Day, Jason Lim and Kevin Ho for their ongoing commitment and connection to local podiatrists.
