Congratulations to APodA’s newest credentialled paediatric podiatrists

We are thrilled to congratulate the APodA's newest credentialled paediatric podiatrists, Liz O’Malley and Mitchell Smith.
Both Liz and Mitchell have demonstrated and provided evidence of competency in their specialist area of paediatric podiatry and undergone a rigorous assessment process, including:
- Demonstration of their contribution to the evidence of paediatric podiatry
- Demonstration of their leadership within paediatric podiatry
- Demonstration of their clinical skills in the completion of a case study portfolio
- Demonstration of their exceptional knowledge in successfully completing a MCQ exam
- Demonstration of their extensive clinical reasoning skills in the successful passing of their Viva exam
Meet Liz and Mitchell
Liz O’Malley, BPod – Practicing podiatry for 17 years, Liz works privately and within the community health sector. She believes in providing holistic, client- and family-centred care, with a strong emphasis on empowering families through education and support.
Mitchell Smith, BPod – Mitchell is a Melbourne-based podiatrist with a clinical and research interest in paediatrics and child health. He currently works in the public sector as the Senior Podiatrist in the Monash Health Child and Family Program. Mitchell is a current PhD candidate with Monash University, with a research focus on developing clinical practice recommendations for chronic lower limb pain conditions in children. His previous research has looked at how children with developmental coordination disorder (DCD) interface with the podiatry profession, and he has presented at conferences across Australia, the UK, and Europe. Mitchell also works as a Teaching Associate in the Doctor of Podiatric Medicine at Monash University.

The career framework is a competency-based framework for the development and advancement of podiatry in Australia. The purpose is to provide an enhanced career progression beyond initial training that is both clear and transparent to consumers and the profession.
Registered podiatrists who meet the criteria for application can apply to enter the career framework, working towards one of the credentialled streams; paediatric podiatrist and sports / biomechanics podiatrist.
