National Law reforms: What podiatrists need to know

New National Law reforms affecting how professional misconduct is displayed on the public register are now in effect. Read on for a brief overview of what's changed and what it means for podiatrists.

Where a tribunal has found a practitioner guilty of professional misconduct involving sexual misconduct, a clear statement to that effect will now appear on their public register entry, alongside any related conditions and tribunal findings.

The reforms apply to all findings made since the start of regulation for each profession, including podiatry.

Key points for podiatrists

The changes apply retrospectively to podiatry from the start of national regulation.

  • If you are directly affected, Ahpra will contact you and give you an opportunity to respond before anything is added to your register entry.
  • Ahpra has published a practitioner guide to help you understand the reforms and what they mean for your registration.

For most podiatrists, these reforms will have no direct impact on your registration. However, if you have questions about your own circumstances, we encourage you to review the practitioner guide or contact Ahpra directly.
